Wedding in a wigwam?

It's not really so many years since weddings were in churches or registry offices. Then came the introduction of ceremonies in a wide array of weird and wonderful settings (there are lots of fabulous venues we love to play in and around Leicestershire). But things just keep moving on. Did you know it's now possible to get married in a teepee?

Choosing your Leicestershire wedding venue

Choosing your Leicestershire wedding venue

There are several beautiful wedding venues in Leicestershire to choose from. No matter what you’re looking for, there are plenty of options for your special evening. We are pleased to highlight three of our favourite venues around Leicester which The Souljers have played at many times.

Kilworth House

The Kilworth House Hotel is a lovely country house, built at the end of the 19th century. There are three venues to accommodate both small, intimate gatherings and larger parties. The Shakespeare Room holds 20 guests and is the perfect setting for a cosy ceremony and reception. The Library Restaurant has a domed ceiling and chandeliers and can accommodate 40 guests. Finally, The Orangery is an awe-inspiring room with natural light and wonderful views of the countryside. The room holds 130 people and is the perfect place to bring an outdoor wedding inside.

Kilworth House has lists of wedding suppliers for any special needs the couple may have. Each room at Kilworth is unique. Although there is no dedicated bridal suite, the couple can choose from a wide array of luxurious rooms.

Sketchley Grange

The Sketchley Grange Hotel & Spa offers many options for wedding accommodation. They have four rooms that are perfect for civil ceremonies. These range from the intimate garden pagoda, which holds 18 guests inside, to the opulent and open Bradgate Suite, which seats 300 guests.

Asian weddings are a specialty of the Sketchley Grange. Their caterers are experts in preparing Asian cuisine from many cultures, or your caterer is welcome to use the hotel’s facilities.

They also offer complimentary accommodation for the bride and groom. The Sketchley Grange offers a number of different dining packages for both breakfast and evening buffets. The hotel offers different suite options for guests, and the attached spa can provide a welcome treat to both the happy couple and wedding guests.

Hothorpe Hall

Hothorpe Hall’s history dates back to nearly 900 AD. This beautiful and scenic venue offers stunning settings for wedding photos, no matter what time of year.

Hothorpe Hall has wedding packages to suit any couple’s needs. The winter wedding package takes advantage of the splendour of the snow-covered grounds for photos and the cosy interior for the ceremony. The intimate wedding package is designed for couples who don’t need the entire venue to themselves and can accommodate parties of 30 to 60 guests. The platinum package features exclusive use of the venue, and the twilight package is suitable for evening weddings that use the venue after an earlier party has left the hall. Accommodation includes a bridal suite and rooms for guests. The hotel offers both a breakfast wedding menu and an evening buffet menu to keep your guests happy.

All of these choices are wonderful venues in which to hold a wedding and they come highly recommended by us! Each of them has a unique history and charm that will leave long-lasting memories and provide the perfect start to a life of bliss.

Ricky Dicky Cards, Bespoke Stationery

Bet you did a double take on the title of this blog didn't you?! Well I promise it isn't made up, this is the quirky name of a fabulous stationery company based in Leicester. We first met the owner Rikesh at a Wedding Fair at The City Rooms and quickly became great friends. His work really stood out and made a great impression on Adam and I (and the guests seemed to love it too!)

I mentioned Rikesh's company in my last post about the Leicester Wedding Club and warned you that I had to talk about him a little bit more. We've fallen in love with Rikesh's charming personalilty and his modesty about his work. He is clearly incredibly talented and is doing very well with his newly formed business. Whilst he specialises in Asian wedding stationery, he also creates for non-Asian weddings, birthdays and pretty much any event that you could think of! We love his modern approach whilst keeping some elements of tradition in his designs. I've added a few of my favourites to this post but please do visit his website, or follow him on twitter.

We also love him for creating these fabulous chocolate wrappers for our nephew's Baptism... imagine how cool it would be to hand out personalised chocolate bars to your wedding guests: pretty, classy and yummy all at once! Just make sure they save you one :)

The Baptism / 2nd Birthday Chocs!

So, to Ricky: thanks again for the beautiful chocolates... everyone commented on how personal, special and delicious they were! And to you brides: get designing those choccies... your guests will enjoy them on the day (Mmmmmm!) and they'll be sure to keep the wrapper as a souvenir of your day too! x x x

The Leicester Wedding Club

Adam and I recently attended the newly formed Leicester Wedding Club which took place at The City Rooms in Leicester city centre; the club is the brainchild of Leah Spicer who owns a lovely stationery company called Golden Apple. Having attended various networking events, she really wanted to attend something which was specifically wedding related... when she couldn’t find anything she decided to set up her own club!

The first event was a huge success and Leah was totally bowled over by the number of us that attended! It’s certainly the first time that we’ve ever had to queue to get into The City Rooms! It was a lovely opportunity to meet up with a few people that we already knew and a great opportunity to meet with new people in the business. There were too many people to mention all in one post so, if you would like to see a full list of the attendees, visit their facebook page here: Leicester Wedding Club’s site. We do however have a couple of people to mention here and I may well do a complete write up on them in a forthcoming blog post… so watch this space.

First off is Ricky Dicky Cards: we’re a big fan of his, firstly because he is so funny (and he lets us take the mickey out of him!) but secondly because he’s a fantastic graphic designer who specialises in stationery. We think his designs are really original and love his passion and enthusiasm for what he does.

Secondly we must mention the girls from Save the Date: the magazine is a relatively new concept for Weddings and Events in the East Midlands and our meeting with Lydia and Abbi was short but very sweet. May I also just say that they’re very glamourous ladies who put all of us to shame! They were on their way to the “Rock n Roll Bride party in London (which all you Twitterers out there will know is quite a big deal!) We hope to be able to work with lots them in the future.

Like I said, there’s far too many to mention here, but we’ll certainly be checking in with a few more in future blog posts and hopefully meeting again at the next Leicester Wedding Club event. We’re really looking forward to it Leah!
